I’d like to start by apologizing for not posting in so long. As a spoonie, I have a lot of spurts of extremely low energy and that has unfortunately been the case for a few months now.
However, in the spirit of Valentine’s Day I decided to treat myself to a cute DIY mani using some nail art supplies that I’ve bought but not used yet.
For this DIY V-Day Manicure you will need:
- Clear base coat
- Red polish
- White polish
- Clear top coat
- Nail tip guides/stickers
- Nail dotting tool (or toothpick)
- Thin brush
- Tweezers (optional)
- Nail polish remover
First, gather your supplies.
Next, apply your base coat and allow to dry. Then apply your nail guide stickers as shown below.
Next you need to apply your red nail polish. I suggest painting your nails from the guide down towards the tip of your nail. This way you are less likely to get nail polish underneath the sticker guide. If you do get polish under the sticker, just dip your brush into some nail polish remover and clean up the line.
Be sure to remove the nail guide while your polish is still wet, otherwise it may peel off when you take off the sticker and ruin your mani.
You may still not get a crisp line, but that’s where the brush and nail polish remover comes in handy. With a small amount of nail polish remover on your brush you can easily clean up the lines. You might also notice that some of your base coat peels off with your sticker guide, but that’s no problem as we will be adding a top coat as a last step.
The next step requires your nail dotting tool. This step can be done with a toothpick if you don’t own a nail dotting get tool. For this, I like to drip some polish onto a piece of paper and dip my nail tool into it. Using the larger end of the dotting tool, make two dots across from each other, just above the V shape from your nail sticker while leaving enough room for another dot right on the tip of the V. Next, use your tool to drag the polish down diagonally into the bottom dot, forming a heart.
Now, using the smaller end of your dotting tool, create small dots along the edge of your red polish. This gives it such a cute finishing touch!
Finally, add your top coat and voila! Quick tip: wait until your polish is completely dry, or you could end up smudging it. I also suggest “floating” your topcoat onto your nail. This just means that you pick up enough polish on your brush that you can apply it with a very light hand without the brush ever touching your actual nail. This helps tremendously to not smudge the polish underneath.
I hope you enjoyed this manicure idea and that you might give it a try for your Valentine’s day!
Lots of love,
